Stump the Femme: The Shawshank Redemption

Hello my loves and Happy Friday! We West Coast Floridians decided to go ahead and start hurricane season off with a bang and have already met with Tropical Storm Andrea. How is the weather in everyone else's neck of the woods?

Anywho, I am SUUUUUPER excited for today's post! One night I was trying to come up with some polish ideas and was feeling rather... uninspired. So I hopped on my Facebook page and asked people to come up with an idea (person, place, thing, concept, whatever) that they think would stump me when trying to translate it into a polish. The winner (by my choice) would see me make their concept into a polish and then receive said polish as a prize! I chose two winners for the first go around and today I bring you the first winning idea; The Shawshank Redemption. This is hands down one of my favorite movies ever in which a man was wrongly imprisoned for murder. The movie goes on to show how he changes the lives of everyone in the prison while ultimately bringing down the tyrannical warden and breaking free to head to Mexico and start a new life (IMDB here). A significant part in the movie is where the main character leads his best friend once released from prison, to a large sum of money hidden under a piece of black volcanic glass in a large field so that they can reunite in Mexico. The best friend, Red, goes on to say,

I find I'm so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it is the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend, and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope. "

I took my inspiration from the piece of black volcanic glass, that quote, and this picture...

... and created this

The nude crelly base of this polish represents the warm Mexican beach sand while the shimmer laced throughout represents the Pacific Ocean. The glitter represents the black volcanic glass. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact amounts as the nude base color required ALOT of tweaking; but I do know that it was about 60% TKB Glamour base mixed in with Wet 'n' Wild French White Creme, Wonder Beauty Products Primary Yellow Color Base, and Color Club Rebel Spirit (which is a dark brown crelly I picked up in a random set from Ross). Once I had the right base color I added one scoop each of TKB Aqua Sparks! and Blue Sparks! as well as two small scoops of TKB .025" Black Squares. Swatches show two thick coats. Now I completely and utterly fell in love with this polish. Its work appropriate with a sassy twist. Plus I loved how my interpretation isn't necessarily one that's expected!

Well that's all for my Shawshank Redemption interpretation polish. I hope you dig it, and the movie! The next winner will be coming in the next week or so. Also, keep your eyes peeled on Facebook, I will asked to be stumped from time to time and if your idea wins, it could mean a free polish!

Hope to see you ladies next time and until I do, remember to keep it classy and creative!
